Photovoltaic – Solar Training

Solar/Photovoltaic energy, once seen as an anomaly, has become common across the country. It is estimated that by 2026, 1 in 5 residences will have a PV array system associated with that home. These energy creation systems are not all the same and they come with their own unique hazards and challenges for the fire service. Operating safely in proximity to this resource will require training specific to the hazard. This course covers the following topics:

  • Anatomy of a PV Array
  • 600 / 1000/ 1500 Vdc systems
  • Energized components
  • Direct Current hazard considerations
  • Voltage rated Equipment and PPE
  • DC – Detection Equipment
  • Controlling PV utility hazards
    • Never really De-energized
  • Rapid Shutdown – Safety implications
  • PV Array and ESS
  • Hose streams and PV Arrays
  • Preventing re-kindles
