The Program

Energy Slam Training

The Energy Slam course is a down and dirty look at some of today’s most relevant energy hazards and how we operate. Resource deployment that occurs prior to energy hazard recognition is perilous. We need training and skills that teach how to read the energy hazards in every incident. Performing an “Energy Hazard Size-up” takes seconds and will help you recognize these hazards early in the incident. Topics covered in this course:
  • Components of an Energy Hazard Size-up
  • Shock vs Thermal considerations
  • How are we getting shocked?
  • Overhead hazards
  • Underground and Inbuilding Vaults/transformers
  • Reading the Fire Alarm Panel
  • Egress lighting – Critical Indicator
  • Smoke in the Basement / Power loss in the building
  • Utility room fires
  • Suppression options
  • Offensive – Defensive opportunities
  • Switchgear incidents that go unnoticed
  • How to account for Energy in the SFR
