Introductory Energy Training

This introductory course is designed for entry level members of the first responder community. It focuses on big picture anatomy and how energy moves from Substations to end user. Teaching our newest members to have good energy vision is an important skill to develop. Learning how and where to anticipate this invisible hazard will prove invaluable throughout their career. This is the preamble to learning how to conduct an “Energy Hazard Size-up”. The following topics are covered in this course:
  • Working with the energy provider
  • Anatomy of an energy grid
  • Underground and above ground energy
  • Electron movement
  • Electrical Arcing
  • Arc Flash and Shock concerns
  • PPE safeguards and limitations
  • Step potential / Gradient fields
  • Arc Flash – Where they occur
  • Confidence in an energized environment
  • Incidents involving Electric Vehicles
